    Commitment of UN Global Compact participants The UN Global Compact encourages businesses to create a culture of integrity across their organization, from strategy to operations. To join the world’s largest global corporate sustainability initiative, participants embrace the following commitments: Leadership Commitment ​ Effective change begins with your organizations’ leadership. To participate in the UN Global Compact, we require a letter of commitment addressed to the UN Secretary-General and signed by your company's highest-level executive (or equivalent), committing to implement the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and take action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. ​ ​ ​ Financial contribution ​ Upon joining the UN Global Compact, participants are required to make an annual contribution to support their engagement in the UN Global Compact.     FAQs What is the difference between the UN Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein? The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative and aims to mobilize a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders. It provides a platform for business and non-business entities to proactively network and engage in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Participation in the UN Global Compact is a visible commitment to the implementation, disclosure, and promotion of its Ten universal Principles. Local Networks, such as the Swiss & Liechtenstein Network, advance the initiative and its Ten Principles at the country level. Our role is to support organisations engage in the UN Global Compact with respect to the implementation of its principles and provide guidance to put sustainability commitments into action. By providing a platform for dialogue and learning, we create opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action. Who can join the UN Global Compact? Participation in the UN Global Compact is open to any business genuinely committed to implementing the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact throughout its operations and sphere of influence and communicating on its progress each year. Properly constituted (under prevailing national law) companies from any industry sector are eligible for participation, except those listed here. Non-business organisations (e.g. civil society organisations/NGOs, business associations, foundations, academic institutions, public sector organisations, labour organisations and cities) are also encouraged to become Participants of the UN Global Compact. Can company subsidiaries join the UN Global Compact? The UN Global Compact applies the leadership principle. If a parent company is a Participant to the UN Global Compact, the commitment is assumed to apply for all subsidiaries as well. Subsidiaries that wish underline their commitment and become a UN Global Compact signatory alongside their parent are invited to become a member of the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein and to actively participate in our activities at the local and global level. Please consult the joining process here. What will we have to do if we sign up? As a voluntary initiative, the UN Global Compact seeks wide participation from a diverse group of businesses. As a participant of the UN Global Compact, a company: Sets in motion changes to business operations so that the UN Global Compact and its Ten Principles become part of strategy, culture and dayto-day operations; Is expected to publicly advocate the UN Global Compact and its principles via communications vehicles such as press releases, speeches, etc; and Is required to communicate with their stakeholders on an annual basis on progress (Communication on Progress) in: Implementing the Ten Principles and Efforts to support societal priorities. There are a number of ways that companies can take action to embed corporate sustainability into their DNA. Find out what you can do here. What is the Communication on Progress (CoP)? The UN Global Compact requires participating companies to produce an annual Commitment on Progress (CoP) that details their work to embed the Ten Principles into their strategies and operations, as well as efforts to support societal priorities. The CoP is a visible expression of your commitment to sustainability and provides valuable information to your company’s stakeholders. Companies that fail to report or to meet the criteria over time may be removed from the initiative. Click here for more detailed information on the CoP and its requirements. Is there a possibility to extend the CoP deadline? The CoP policy offers two resources for participants to modify their deadline: Grace Period: Grants an additional period of 90 days for organizations that will be delayed in submitting their CoP due to unforeseen events. Please find a guide to submit a Grace letter here. Adjustment Request: Allows a onetime only deferral of up to 11 months to adjust an organization’s internal reporting cycle. A guide to request an adjustment is provided here. Can we use the UN Global Compact Logo? Participants and Signatories that wish to use a UN Global Compact logo are asked to seek permission in advance by using the online logo request system. An exception is the Communication on Progress (CoP) logo which is available for participants to include in their CoP without prior permission. How do I update the contact information of my company? To update contact information, Participants may login to the UN Global Compact website. In the “Contacts” tab of the dashboard, a new contact can be created, or an existing contact can be edited by clicking on the pencil picture under the appropriate contact name to modify its details.

    How to join To participate in the UN Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein, follow the following steps. Step 1: Organization type Decide if your organization is a business or non-business. Please check our non-business categories for more information. Check if your organization falls under any non-business categories Step 2: Letter of commitment & proof of legal registration Prepare a Letter of Commitment addressed to the UN Secretary-General and signed by the highest level executive or Chairperson of the board (or equivalent) committing to implement the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, act in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and report on their progress annually (CoP). ​ In addition, please have an official/legal registry document ready to confirm your company's legal status during the online application process. Download the letter template: English German French Step 3: Application Complete the online application by filling out the Online Application Form. ​ If you are a Swiss subsidiary of a transnational company that is already a Participant of the UN Global Compact, please identify this in the online application. ​ The UN Global Compact will confirm your membership. Thereafter, you will be welcomed to the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein and invited to all our local activities. Complete the online application form Step 4: Invoicing ​You will receive an invoice from the UN Global Compact Head Office.     SME Peer Learning Group Grappling with complex issues in an ever-changing sustainability landscape under mounting pressure from consumers and shareholders, sustainability professionals across the globe are looking for opportunities to connect with their peers for insights and knowledge sharing. ​ Peer Learning Groups at the UN Global Compact create a safe space for companies to share their best practices and challenges on critical sustainability issues with like-minded professionals, while gaining access to industry experts and unique networking opportunities. Through facilitated sessions, curated resources and group discussions, participants learn about the latest best practices in any given issue area in a trusted, regulated environment. ​ The SMEs Peer Learning Group is open for staff of UNGC participants working on topics related to climate, environment, human & labour rights, anti-corruption, compliance and sustainability.     Climate Ambition Accelerator The Climate Ambition Accelerator is a 6-month training programme for participants of the UN Global Compact who are looking to make progress towards setting science-based emissions targets and create a path to address their organization’s transition to net-zero. The Climate Ambition Accelerator aims to increase credible climate action across companies of all sizes and sectors. No matter where companies are in their sustainability journey, the Climate Ambition Accelerator will equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to boost progress towards setting science-based emissions targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway. Through our Local Network, participating companies will gain access to global best practices, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, capacity building sessions and on-demand training. Modules Foundations Take a deep dive into the methodology and approach of science-based targets (SBT) setting, from the basics to in-depth discussions about the net-zero concept for advanced stakeholders. Business Case Drive climate change ambition internally and build internal buy-in and engagement for climate action at the management and board level. ​ ​ Implementation Learn how to manage greenhouse gas emissions and implement different emission reduction strategies to meet ambitious targets. ​ ​ Programme schedule & costs The 6-month training programme includes a mix of on-demand sessions for independent learning, online workshops, peer learning formats and global sessions with case studies on leading companies in climate action. In addition, participants will be invited to attend global events.
