Non-Business Participation
The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is a multi-stakeholder initiative, and non-business organizations and institutions play a crucial role in fulfilling its mission to support companies in embedding corporate sustainability. Therefore, non-business organizations are also invited to join the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein. These include business associations, cities/municipalities, civil society organisations/non-governmental organisations, labour unions, public sector organisation and academic institutions, (including PRME members).
Specific conditions apply for the admission of non-business organizations:
-
The organization has been legally registered for at least two years
-
Its mission aligns with the UN Global Compact and it does not fall under the exclusionary criteria
-
Its activities provide clear valuet to our business participants, or there is a credible basis for collaboration
-
It is willing to demonstrate its continued engagement by submitting the required Communication on Engagement (CoE) every two years
-
Members of the organization actively engage in our activities*
*Please note that the UN Global Compact is primarily a private sector initiative. Thus, there may be activities that non-business participants are not able to participate in. We work closely with our non-business participants to support companies' work with the UN Global Compact's Ten Principles and the SDGs.
Expression of Interest
To express your interest in joining the UN Global Compact, please submit the Expression of Interest (EOI) form for non-business organizations on the UN Global Compact website.
You will need to provide the information listed on the right. Once your Expression of Interest (EOI) is submitted, it will undergo a joint review by the UN Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network Swizerland & Liechtenstein. This review assesses eligibility, mission alignment, and potential contribution to our goals. Please note that the full process can take up to 6 months from start to finish.
Application process
Once you receive a positive response from us regarding your Expression of Interest, you are invited to initiate the actual application process. It includes:
-
Letter of Commitment from the CEO
-
Confirmation of submitting every two years a Communication on Engagement (CoE)
-
Confirmation that any misuse of the UNGC brand and/or logo may result in termination of participation
What is the Communication on Engagement (CoE)?
The CoE is a public disclosure through which participants inform stakeholders about their efforts to support the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and about their engagement in the initiative. Through the CoE participants demonstrate their commitment to promote the implementation of the Ten Principles among businesses.
The CoEs of all organisations are published on the UN Global Compact website.
