    Some non-business organizations are eligible to join our local network. Find out more. Joining as a Non-Business Participant The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is a multi-stakeholder initiative, and non-business organizations and institutions play a crucial role in fulfilling its mission to support companies in embedding corporate sustainability. Therefore, non-business organizations are also invited to join the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein. These include business associations, cities/municipalities, civil society organisations/non-governmental organisations, labour unions, public sector organisation and academic institutions, (including PRME members). You will need to provide the information listed on the right. Once your Expression of Interest is submitted, it will undergo a joint review by the UN Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network Swizerland & Liechtenstein. This review assesses eligibility, mission alignment, and potential contribution to our goals. Please note that the full process can take up to 6 months from start to finish. Express your interest in joining Organizational information • Name of the organization • Website • Number of employees • Proof of registration • Responses to the Integrity Statement Mission-related questions Outline your organization’s mission, its alignment with the UN Global Compact, and your planned activities to support its mission. Contact point & highest level executive The primary contact point will ensure communication between your organization and the UN Global Compact. They will receive regular emails, including our newsletter, Communication on Engagement deadlines and updates on news and events. Application process Once you receive a positive response from us regarding your Expression of Interest, you are invited to initiate the actual application process. It includes: Letter of Commitment from the CEO Confirmation of submitting every two years a Communication on Engagement (CoE) Confirmation that any misuse of the UNGC brand and/or logo may result in termination of participation What is the Communication on Engagement (CoE)? The CoE is a public disclosure through which participants inform stakeholders about their efforts to support the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and about their engagement in the initiative. Through the CoE participants demonstrate their commitment to promote the implementation of the Ten Principles among businesses.     Reporting to stakeholders in a transparent and public manner is fundamental for companies committed to sustainability. To streamline reporting on the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals and support an evolving reporting marketplace, the UN Global Compact has launched a new COP process. Communication on Progress (CoP) Reporting to stakeholders in a transparent and public manner is fundamental for companies committed to sustainability. Your company’s annual Communication on Progress (CoP) is a key component of your commitment to the UN Global Compact.  In case of questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to tabea.boeglin@globalcompact.ch or cop-support@unglobalcompact.org . Communication on Progress The Communication on Progress (CoP) is the accountability mechanism of the UN Global Compact. It is an annual and mandatory requirement for all business participants of the UN Global Compact. The submission period for the mandatory 2026 Communication on Progress (CoP) opens on 1 April 2026 and closes on 31 July 2026. For additional information, please refer to the 2026 CoP Policy, visit our CoP Readiness Hub or consult the resources at the bottom of this page. Measure and demonstrate progress to stakeholders and the public on the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals in a consistent and harmonized way. Build credibility and brand value by showing their commitment to the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals Receive insights, learn and continuously improve performance by showing their commitment to the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals Compare performance against peers through access to one of the largest sources of free, public and comparable corporate sustainability data Benefits of the Communication on Progress Requirements List Title The Communication on Progress (CoP) consists of two elements that must be submitted through the CoP digital platform: CEO Statement of Continued Support Publicly expressing your company’s ongoing commitment to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact at the highest level. The statement is a standardized template that is signed electronically. CoP Questionnaire and/or Sustainability Report Reporting  on corporate action and performance related to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals.  *For the 2026 reporting year, a sustainability report uploaded through the digital platform can still be submitted in lieu of the CoP Questionnaire. Please reference the 2026 CoP Policy  for more information. Deadlines The 2026 CoP submission period is from 1 April 2026 at 15:00 CEST to 31 July 2026 at 23:00 CEST. The CoP is an annual, mandatory requirement for all business participants of the UN Global Compact. New joiners do not need to submit a CoP until the year after joining. For example, participants joining the Global Compact in 2026 do not need to submit a CoP until 2027.
 Participants, excluding new joiners, that fail to submit a 2026 CoP within the submission period will be listed as ‘non-communicating’ on their participant profile after the deadline has passed. ‘Non-communicating ’ participants that do not submit a CoP by 31 December 2026 will be delisted  from the UN Global Compact on 1 January 2027. Preparing your Communication on Progress Review the CoP Questionnaire to understand which data needs to be collected. Use the CoP Guidebook for support in answering the questionnaire, such as calculation guidance and a glossary of key terms. Optional: complete the CoP Questionnaire as a draft using the Excel or PDF version. Begin your data collection process on time using supporting CoP materials on the CoP Academy page and the CoP Data Checklist . Ensure that you have access to the UN Global Compact dashboard . Refer to the User's Guide to learn how to request credentials. Submitting your Communication on Progress Complete the CoP Questionnaire on our platform, accessible via your UN Global Compact Dashboard . Note that the Excel file and PDF cannot be uploaded and that the CEO Statement of Continued Support is integrated into the platform and does not require a separate file. Participants are welcome to include supplementary materials in their CoP submission. Please note that such materials, along with the rest of the CoP, will be publicly available upon submission. Once submitted, the CoP will be available to be downloaded as a PDF file by the participant via the digital platform. Additionally, all CoPs will be publicly available to view on each respective participant profile. Please note that all data, including supplemental documentation that was submitted by a participating company through the CoP digital platform, will be made publicly available on the UN Global Compact website. This data may be used by the UN Global Compact in aggregate form to present trends or included in reports about the status of corporate sustainability. The UN Global Compact does not have any responsibility on the accuracy of the data submitted by its participating companies nor on how this public data will be used by other stakeholders. It is an annual and mandatory requirement for all business participants. It consists of a: • CoP Questionnaire and/or Sustainability Report • CEO Statement of Continued Support More details can be found here.(/communication-on-progress) Financial commitment All participants pay an annual contribution fee to access all programmes and services offered on both global and local level. The contributions are also used to further develop the programmatic and activities. Financial contributions are applied based on business type and annual revenue. See the table further below on this page. Exclusionary criteria To ensure the UN Global Compact policies and practices safeguard the integrity and reputation of the United Nations and the values it upholds, the initiative maintains a few exceptions that restrict participation. Applicants that meet the following exclusionary criteria cannot join the UN Global Compact: • Subject to a UN sanction • Listed on the UN Ineligible Vendors List for ethical reasons • Derive revenue from the production, sale and/or transfer of antipersonnel landmines or cluster bombs • Derive revenue from the production and/or manufacturing of tobacco Step 1: Apply online Complete the online application form. If you are a Swiss subsidiary of a transnational company that is already a UNGC participant , please identify this in the online application. Before filling out the form, please have the following information ready: Basic company information inclucuding number of employees and annual gross revenue in USD Contact information for your company’s primary UNGC contact point Contact information for the CEO who will sign an automatically generated Letter of Commitment Contact information for a financial contact person Proof of official company registration (e.g., an extract from the commercial register in PDF format). Complete the application form Please note that for micro-businesses (less than 10 employees), decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis which can take up to 6 months from start to finish. Step 2: Digitally sign the Letter of Commitment The Letter of Commitment is a statement of your organization committing to implement the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, take action in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and submit an annual Communication on Progress (CoP) . This letter is automatically generated once you go through the application form. This Letter of Commitment is signed by your company's highest-level executive (CEO or equivalent) and is addressed to the UN Secretary-General. Step 3: Pay your contribution Once your application has been accepted, you will receive an invoice from the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein and be able to access all offerings at the global and country network levels. All business participants are obligated to pay their respective annual contribution fee to access all programmes and services offered. The UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein will invoice, collect, manage, and retain all fees from business participants with an annual gross sales/revenue of less than USD 50 million, and subsidiaries of UN Global Compact business participants. Annual financial contribution How your annual financial contributions is used within the UNGC Annual financial contributions from business participants with an annual gross sales/revenue of above USD 50 million will be shared between: 1) Our Country Network: UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein (GCNSL) - Country Network Fee. 2) Our Head Office: UN Global Compact (through the Foundation for the Global Compact) - Global Network Fee*. The United Nations Global Compact is supported by the Foundation for the Global Compact, a U.S.-based non-profit that exists solely to provide vital financial, operational, and programmatic assistance to the work of the UN Global Compact. Your annual contribution is used to deliver programmes and participant services in collaboration with Global Compact Country Networks. *The Global Network fee is invoiced and collected in the name and for the account of the Global Compact Office and the Foundation for the Global Compact: 685 Third Avenue, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10017 United States of America.     Participants of the UN Global Compact are entitled to use the “We Support” (Endorser) logo. It can be used, for example, on websites and relevant print materials to communicate your commitment to the initiative and raise awareness of the UN Global Compact. Logo Policy While the UN Global Compact logo is for use by our initiative only, we encourage participants to use the Endorser "We Support" logo. It can be used, for example, on websites and relevant print materials to communicate your commitment to the initiative and raise awareness of the UN Global Compact. To use the Endorser logo, you must submit an official request using the online logo request system and you will need to indicate where and how the logo would be used. Every use of the Endorser logo requires prior permission. To use the authorized Endorser logo, an organisation must: Be an active participant of the UN Global Compact, with an active CoP/CoE status; and Non-business organisations must have submitted a CoE. Please note that the following conditions apply: The logo must be placed in such a manner that it is clear from the context to which organisation the “We” refers. The logo may not be sub-licensed to any other entity without the prior written consent of the UN Global Compact. The logo and UN Global Compact name are not to be used in any manner that suggests or implies that the UN Global Compact has endorsed or approved of the activities, products, and/or services of the organization, or that the UN Global Compact is the source of any such activities, products or services. Generally, per the Brand Guidelines, a participant’s logo should not be placed on the same level as the Endorser logo. Permission to use the Endorser logo lapses if the participant is delisted from the UN Global Compact. Participants and stakeholders that have been authorized to use the Endorser logo on their website are strongly encouraged to link the logo to the UN Global Compact homepage at www.unglobalcompact.org . When using the Endorser logo with permission, please strictly adhere to the guidelines regarding its reproduction, display and spacing as outlined in the UN Global Compact Brand Guidelines .
