About the event
This two-part series "Exploring Nature Data" provides participants with a short insight into new developments in the nature data market. Please make sure to also register here for part two on 5 November.
This first session will inform about the modelling of financial risks resulting from nature degradation. In the session, the Nature Exchange Group member GIST Impact will present the Nature Value at Risk measure and their dataset.
The Nature Value at Risk (NVaR) framework has been developed based on European Central Bank guidance, and research and collaboration with the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford, which has applied the approach to quantify how ecosystem-service degradation could affect economic output and banks’ credit portfolios.
Nature Value at Risk estimates how much of a company's production, and the revenue and earnings tied to it, is exposed if the natural systems it depends on are significantly degraded. That includes ecosystem services like clean water, pollinators, and flood-buffering wetlands, assessed across both the company's own operations and its supply chain.
The session will end with a Q&A section where participants are encouraged to ask their questions.
Target audience
Professionals working within finance or companies that want to learn more about methodologies and approaches behind available NVAR.
Professionals who want to understand which tools or data sets investors and banks may be using to inform their nature strategies.
Open to participants of the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein and members of Swiss Sustainable Finance only.
Language
The session will be conducted in English. You can enable Zoom's automatically translated captions in your preferred language.
